The Breakers Series Books 13 eBook Edward W Robertson

I'm pretty generous with my reviews and ratings, but this book has so many problems right from the start. I picked this trilogy up for free because of the thousands of raving reviews, needless to say, I've already removed it from my devices.

The first problem for me was the MC Walt. When we meet him he's a whiny, prissy sissy crying because his gorgeous girlfriend has left a good bye note. She hasn't given it to him, he's just gone through her dresser to find it. After the plague hits and she dies he becomes bent on killing himself and has determined to die on his journey from New York City to Los Angeles. Why is he making this journey, and on foot? Because his dead girlfriend was an actress and always dreamed of being there. Along the way, without ever being shown how, Walt becomes pretty much an expert marksman.

The second problem with this book is the sheer number of unnecessary words put to paper. Or e-paper. The author simply vomits up needlessly long descriptions of everything and makes sure to throw in simile after simile with his retching.

Third, It's as if the Author was inspired by Stephen King's epic The Stand and tried to do that but add in some funky crab-like aliens. It didn't work. It didn't work primarily because King's book takes the time to develop a good plot and characters we're drawn to. This book, despite the word count, does neither.

I could go on, but if I haven't managed to sway your desire to read this abomination, nothing will. This book is also in desperate need of editing.

The Breakers Series Books 13 eBook Edward W Robertson Reviews

Excellent. Endless action and adventure. The writing is tight, crisp and humorous. Each book introduces two to four new characters, some of them overlapping, so there may be a scene from several different points of view. One may never know how one may react to alien invasion and the end of the world scenario, but Mr. Robertson takes one through several ways and means and through several different characters and their reactions in dealing with it. And it's an extremely exciting adventure the whole way.
I enjoyed book 1 given it's twist of virus from an alien source. We were told the story from the perspective of two different people/groups. It was entertaining and I looked forward to reading more. For book 1 I would give it 4 to 5 stars.

Book 2 sent sideways. We were told the same story as book 1 but now from two different people/groups with a tiny bit of touch from a figure from book 1. When I finished with book 2 I scratched my head and wondered why the author had chosen to waste our time. Perhaps to set something up for interaction from characters in #1 and #2 in #3?

Book 3 sees a little bit of use of two characters from book 1 but introduces us to a whole new set of characters and tells the ongoing story from their perspective. For the most part book 3 was it's own story.

Overall I liked the writing style. Some grammatical and spelling errors but not many. You become engaged with some of the characters. As I sit back and mentally try to bring all 3 books together I don't get a tightly woven story integrating multiple characters with different experiences. What I get is 3 stories that have a few commonalities.

For $.99 it's a great buy and an enjoyable read. It just seems to me that it could have been so much more.
I was a little hesitant when I saw this three book pack...Oh well...a couple reviews seemed to approach it the same way but gave it 5 stars. Plague and aliens....come on...oh well...it was either the buy of the season or a waste...

It wasn't a waste. It really works...I just bought the 4th book and can't wait to start it. The Breakers series is a glimpse into a world when everything falls apart. The good the bad and the really, really ugly. Each book in this collection focuses on a single person and how the disaster that nearly destroys the world impacts their lives.

The first book fucuses on Walt. Walt, in New York loves his girlfriend and when she dies during the plague, he is so despondent that he literally walks away thinking he'll die on the way to the west coast where his love had always wanted to go but he kept her from her dreams....In his quest to see the ocean, his struggle includes fighting the aliens....he's a real anti-hero...still has flaws and warts...

The second book is about a pair of feuding brothers who end up in a small settlement with its own power generating. Only problem is, there are the haves and the have nots...In the end the two come together, a geek and a Rambo finding common ground and fighting to make life better.

The third book is about a wild child that loses her family, is taken in and when her second father dies and her mother is taken away, she spurs a rebellion to end all rebellions. She's twisted, funny, and definitely the life of the rebellion.

Characters from the first two books show up in the third book so once you get to know someone, they drift back in and out of the stories. They still are as damaged and twisted and didn't become saints, just more real in fighting for what they believed in.

Oh, by the way...the reason this package is such a bargain...it's a great read and over 1000 pages....so well worth the bargain price...now I get to read the next book...The Reapers.
