Associated Student Bodies (to be identified for brevity as ASB) is a work of Gay Furry pornography. This is not a condemnation, just a recognized fact. Having said that, this is an important piece to own if anybody is interested in A:History of Furry B:Gay issues c: Why Furry and Gay comics have reasons to overlap.
I purchased this product to research a panel for Gaylaxicon 2012. There are 2 guest of honor that are "furry" artist. The question was asked "What does furry have to do with gay issues?". This book is a very good answer to that.
Started in 1996 during the rise of Furry art and Gay cultural awareness in the US, this comic really displays how characterizations used in Furry provide great context and character development for classic archetypes we see in gay culture. The story revolves around a college student who has to go through the classic social issues of many gay college students. The challenges of coming out to oneself, then to community, then to to family, resolving social issues like god and homophobic violence, and dealing with the stress all of these put on a relationship. ASB use of anthropomorphic characters allow the reader to move quickly past learning complete back histories of supporting cast by identifying personalities with classic furry archetypes. This use of classic furry archetypes may be formulaic, but it allows the story to tackle key concepts and issues while still providing stable context and character development for all the characters without it being bogged down in needless exposition. There is a weakness to ASB. The central story of our main character Danny feels a little too cliche, like we have read this story before. But then again, this was the 90's, where movies like "Jeffrey" were defining and setting the mold on gay issues. I can see historically where ASB influenced many of the styles and assumptions that are used in the furry Genre today. If you ever wonder why furry seems to have a higher percentage of homosexuals than average, stories like ASB provide insight to why homosexuals find context and community in Furry culture. I can easily recommend this to both heterosexual furries and gay non furries alike as it is really good at giving a glimpse of "the other side". I also found the many of the side stories, especially the ones with the over the top character Ricky, to be remarkably humorous and insightful.
Final warning, ASB does have a good deal of sex in it. Sometimes I would even suggest a little excessive. That said, the contextual nature of MOST of it makes sure it remains in the realms of good taste, if not good humor.

It's not worth 850 dollars. Go online and you'll find multiples of this copy for 35 dollars.
This book is a collaboration of all six "Associated Student Bodies" comic novels plus extra side-stories, bonus sketches & exclusive content. When I read through the yearbook edition for the first time, I weeped with happiness. This series is more than just another furry porn collection, there are moral issues and heartfelt emotional strongpoints cleverly laced among these anthropomorphic collegians. In fact, every character represents a specific group or individual one may have known in their own college dorm-life. I certainly knew a Ricky, as well as a Steven and a Tiny. I myself can certainly say I'm as related to Daniel King as Janet is to Michael Jackson, and I've had a Marcus in my life at one time.

There is a general amount of homosexual situations laced within these pages, so if anybody doesn't roll that way, I would suggest to steer clear of this publication. However if one is open to mixed sexual orientations and appreciates furry comics, or just clever comics in general, this might be the best purchase money can buy.

I rated the series 5-stars because of the deep personal & emotional impact it had on my life. It's unbelievable how wonderfully well the artwork of Chris McKinley, Terrie Smith & Baron Engel played out among the strips & the covers. Whereas Lance Rund's writing, editing & publishing certainly mended the void to create a wonderful enduring story idea.

Of course, these aspiring furs also had assistance from a few other famed furry artists such as Andrew Murphy-Mee, Chris Sawyer, Chuck Davies, Dave Bryant, Eric Elliott, Frank Gembeck Jr., Glen Wooten, Jareth, Jonas Silver, Michelle D. Light, Robin Leigh, Roz Gibson, Sean Rabbitt, Smudge, Vandrigar, Wookie and Zjonni.

I am grateful to own a copy of this book, and I wish only the greatest of luck to Lance Rund & Chris McKinley's enduring success & fame in the furry fandom.
What can I say....I read these stories for the first time when I was 16. At the time I was having serious issues understand who I was. Was I gay was I straight was I a furry would my father accept me what would my life be like? Theno I found ASB and I cried because it truly helped me understand who I was and to be proud of it. I'm 21 now and it's still makes me cry. I also cried because it ended. I wanted more but there just wasn't and it makes me upset to know that. If I could I would love to just tell the author thank you. Thank you for making this wonderful story and it's great characters and beautiful storyline. I love it so much and I will continue to love till the day I die

I loved this comic series. The art work is overall phenomenal, the story arcs are compelling, and the writing is superb. It also has a great cast of unique and positively scandalous characters, surrounding a vulnerable young man lion learning to be part of the world instead of a spectator of it. Gerald (goth cat) is my favorite character, I have to say, as he invokes the dark forces to an elegant and lovely epiphany of prose. His passion is very, very deep.

I highly recommend this compilation book, as it also reminds me of a TV drama and comedy not unlike Queer as Folk or Melrose Place. It is not just about a little creative sex here and there. This is primarily a story of relationships, ideals, finding one's self, and exploring souls. It will, without doubt, go down as a ground-breaking work of Furry and overall collegiate comic literature, and I'm glad to own a copy, bought from the creators themselves!

The extras at the end are just as well done as the main multi-issue collection, BTW.

Seriously amazing volume! I was so happy to find out that there were new copies available, I thought that it was long since out of print. Really touching and beautiful book. So many scenes really struck a chord.
